CASE STUDY – FPS20-10 GEN 12
GOULBURN VALLEY, VICTORIA | 1 JANUARY 2023 – 25 MAY 2025

Future Power Systems deployed the FPS20-10 Gen 1 hybrid power system to support a remote drone testing centre in the Goulburn Valley, Victoria.
The site had a unique operating profile, with high overnight battery-charging loads required for drone testing.
PROJECT SNAPSHOT
Project Name | Kite Aero Drone Testing Facility |
Location | Goulburn Valley, Victoria |
Product Deployed | FPS20-10 |
Application | Drone testing centre |
Deployment Period | 1 January 2023 - 25 May 2025 |
Project Duration | 875 Days |
Site Condition | High overnight battery charging load |
Diesel Generator Comparison | 30kVA diesel generator |
WHAT WAS POWERED
The FPS20-10 supported temporary site facilities including:
1 x 9m x 3m Office
Security and lighting systems
Septic and associated pumping systems
Data and communications systems

THE CHALLENGE
The site required consistent power for remote drone testing operations. This included overnight battery charging, lighting, security, data systems and communications infrastructure.
Unlike a standard temporary site facility, this deployment had high overnight charging demand, requiring the system to support critical loads outside typical daylight solar generation hours.
THE FPS SOLUTION
Future Power Systems deployed the FPS20-10 Gen 1, a containerised hybrid power system combining solar generation, battery storage and backup generation.
The system was designed to support daytime site loads while storing energy to meet overnight demand, with backup generation available as needed to maintain reliable power.
System configuration included:
Containerised hybrid power system
Integrated solar generation
Battery energy storage
Backup diesel generation
Remote site power capability
Support for overnight battery charging loads
PERFORMANCE OUTCOME
The Swoop Aero deployment demonstrated how hybrid power can support specialist remote operations with high overnight energy demand.
Across the deployment, the system generated 6.7 MWh of solar and used 0.9 MWh of backup generation.
By using the FPS20-10 Gen 1 instead of relying on a 24-hour diesel-only generator setup, the project achieved an estimated:
43,729.88L
of fuel saved
$96,205.73
in fuel cost savings
118.07
tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided
SYSTEM USED: FPS20-10
The FPS20-10 Gen 1 is a containerised hybrid power system designed for construction, infrastructure, remote operations and temporary off-grid site applications.
It combines solar generation, battery storage, and backup generation to provide practical on-site power while helping to reduce diesel reliance.
Specification | FPS20-10 |
Format | Containerised hybrid system |
Solar | Integrated solar generation |
Battery | Up to 50kWh |
Backup | Diesel generation |
Best Suited For | Construction compounds, site amenities and temporary off-grid power |
Many temporary sites still rely on diesel generators running for long periods, even when demand is low. This increases fuel use, operating costs, noise, maintenance and emissions.
Hybrid power systems provide a more efficient alternative by using solar and battery storage where possible, while retaining backup generation for reliability.
For sites like Kite Aero's Drone Testing Site, this means practical temporary power with lower diesel reliance and measurable environmental benefits.
